Rankings Speculation Open Thread

While the fan-friendliness of the Regionals tournament structure will probably continue to be debated, there's no doubt that it did wildly succeed in one intended way -- with all participating teams playing either three or four bouts over the course of the weekends, it's a heck of a lot easier to compare teams now for accurate rankings.

Men's Derby Conference II Hits Baltimore This Sunday

The second Men's Derby Conference -- a combination scrimmage day and networking opportunity for the increasing number of men's derby teams popping up around the nation -- will be hosted by your humble journalist's team, the Harm City Homicide, in Baltimore on Sunday, December 7th.

We have seven months. Are we ready?

Just under three years ago, the already-surging sport of modern roller derby experienced a period of explosive growth, going from under 50 to over 150 leagues and more than doubling the number of registered skaters in the space of about six months.  This burst coincided with the airing of A&E's short-lived Rollergirls series, and while there's probably never been a study, around about the 50th time you hear a skater tell you that she caught an episode of the show and that's what prompted her to either:

Wired Magazine gets it

What's the best way to put a high-end digital camera through it's paces?  Why, take it to a roller derby bout, of course!  At least, that's the conclusion Wired Magazine's GadgetLab came to when evaluating the 12 megapixel Nikon D3, which they took to a Bay Area Derby Girls bout for a field test:

November 8 Scrimmage-a-Thon in Atlanta

The ladies from the Atlanta Roller Girls are throwing an all-day scrimmage-a-thon in a couple of weeks, which will be culminating with a sanctioned WFTDA bout between Atlanta and Nashville. If you're within a reasonable distance, or you've got some frequent-flier miles burning a hole in your pocket, you could do a lot worse than showing up for the fun.
